Landscaping

We can make a mess into something beautiful with our landscaping service! Part of caring for the whenua that we love so much is shaping and crafting it into places that our clients can fully experience, enjoy, and occupy.

As with all aspects of our work, we incorporate sustainable and low-waste practices in our landscaping. Our focus is on soft landscaping, using plants, natural ground cover and edging to create attractive outdoor spaces. The landscaping work we do in West Auckland and beyond includes:

Planting

We love plants! Helping you to go green is an important part of our eco-friendly landscaping services.

Planting your garden starts with a discussion about which varieties will look and work best in the space. From there, we can source, deliver and plant your selections. This may include new soil such as garden mix, or organic veggie mix for food plots.

Mulch installs

Mulch offers many advantages to your garden beyond just covering up unsightly parts of the ground. It suppresses weeds, helps the soil to retain moisture, moderates temperatures and reduces soil erosion and compaction.

Our landscaping services often include laying mulch where it is beneficial. We make our own mulch in an effort to reduce waste—we love to reuse and repurpose resources wherever possible. A slight variation in mulch colour is normal as it can vary between batches.

Pebble Install

Where mulch isn’t suitable, we can lay down smooth and visually appealing river pebbles. This is a low-maintenance and modern option for ground cover, soft underfoot and installed with weed mat to prevent anything coming through. There are three different pebble sizes to choose from.

Garden edging.

Laying down edging as part of your landscaping keeps everything defined and looking sharp. We offer different types of edging to suit many different gardens.

Sleepers:

Our rugged macrocarpa sleepers are a rustic option perfect for raised garden beds. At a chunky 150mm by 100mm and untreated for soil health, these are a top pick.

Ponga_Garden_Edging

Ponga:

Ponga logs are a natural-looking way to edge your garden, perfect for those sections with a lot of native New Zealand plants.

Timber:

We can also edge your garden with long-lasting H4 rough swan pine. Both 150mm by 50mm and 100mm by 25mm options are available to suit the aesthetic of your property.

Raised planter beds:

Whether you are looking to plant vegetables or flowers, we can install raised beds to give them a home. Just let us know what size and height you’d like.

Auckland_irrigation_system

Irrigation systems:

Once we have your outdoor space looking great, you’ll want to keep it that way. We can install and maintain an irrigation system that allows your plants to grow and thrive.

We don’t do:

  • Drawn-up landscaping plans. You would need a landscape designer for this.

  • Decks, retaining walls and fencing. We like gardening too much!

  • Weedmat, except under river pebbles. Weedmat blocks nutrients and moisture from the soil, creates waste (your money included), and the weeds just grow on top of it anyway.

Make the most of your patch with a little help from the 1st Class Gardens team. We can put in the mahi that’s required for your dream outdoor space.
